Garrett Thomas is a multi-genre vocalist, songwriter, producer, educator, entrepreneur, and a proud Maryland native. His music has been called “a spellbinding blend of emotions” (MyRuralRadio). Professor Thomas is a featured artist for Beat Chamber Records, where he has written and recorded music for over a decade. He has released multiple studio projects, including singles, EPs, and an album. He has also composed music for sync licensing, with songs placed in libraries with Imaginary Friends Music Partners, Marmoset, and Spin Damage.
The core of Professor Thomas’s teaching philosophy is that all music-making experiences are valuable. His years of performance experience range across a wide variety of vernacular and cultivated music experiences, including opera, musical theatre, art song, choral, gospel, spiritual, folk oratorio, jazz, pop, rock, country, and metal. Professor Thomas’s versatile background and balanced pedagogical philosophy allow him to teach and inspire students no matter their prerequisite experience or aspirations, be they rock shows and solo gigs at local pubs or staged productions of musicals and operas.
As a voice teacher, he specializes in working with singer-songwriters and singers in popular genres (Pop, Rock, RnB, Metal, etc). He is a firm believer in evidence-based approaches to the voice and guides his students to coordinate a healthy, sustainable technique for any genre they want to sing. He believes in directly preparing his students for the work environment, utilizing audio recording technology to bring his decade of professional audio production experience into the applied lesson.
Professor Thomas is currently a doctoral candidate at Shenandoah Conservatory, where he is pursuing his D.M.A in Vocal Pedagogy. He holds both Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Voice Performance from the University of Delaware School of Music, where he studied privately under the tutelage of Dr. Blake Smith and studied voice science and pedagogy with world-renowned pedagogue Dr. Noël Archambeault.
