Dr. Becker brings her work experience in Management Accounting to the classroom in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. She also serves as coordinator for the Accounting Principles courses in the department. Dr. Becker’s background in the education field has influenced her teaching style as well as her scholarly activities. Her research related to self-regulated learning and the introductory accounting course has been published in Issues in Accounting Education, the premier accounting education journal. This research stream has led to presentations at conferences including the American Accounting Association Southeast Conference, the Virginia Tech Conference on Higher Education, and the national Teaching Professor Conference. Dr. Becker was also invited to facilitate a seminar on the topic of self-regulated learning for the faculty of Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany in 2013.
Currently, Dr. Becker is collaborating with Dr. Stephan Form of the City University of Applied Sciences (HSB) in Bremen, Germany where Dr. Form teaches the world-renowned German costing system, Grenzplankostenrechnung (GPK). During her visits to the German university, Dr. Becker has had the opportunity to teach in a German classroom, interact with the accounting faculty at the university, and learn from an SAP expert associated with the university.
During her career at ETSU, Dr. Becker has received the ETSU College of Business & Technology New Faculty Award, the Faculty Excellence Award for Service, and the Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching. She was especially honored to receive the Students’ Choice Award for the College as part of the ETSU centennial celebration in 2011. In 2017, Dr. Becker, along with co-authors Dr. Jean Stead and Dr. Edward Stead, received a Certificate of Merit Award in the Lybrand Awards Manuscript Competition for their publication on sustainability reporting assurance in Management Accounting Quarterly.
Dr. Becker is a founding member of the ETSU Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) Advisory Board and has offered faculty workshops in collaboration with Dr. Alison Barton. Dr. Becker has recently been selected to become a peer reviewer for the CTE Faculty Peer Review program beginning in 2021.
