ETSU Computing Mentorship
The ETSU Computing Mentorship (ETSU-CM) program collaborates with ETSU's Department of Computing and leading technology-driven businesses across the region. The purpose of ETSU-CM is to help students bolster their resilience, professionalism, and technical aptitude. Students participating in ETSU-CM are paired with industry professionals who can share valuable insight into the best ways to leverage the college experience in a way that prepares students for a career in a computing-related field.

The Mentoring Monday Webinar series supports all CSCI students through interactive video conferencing with today's leading IT professionals. Each month, ETSU-CM will sponsor a webinar on a particular topic related to computing. Below are the topics slated for Spring 2022:

Chris Meyer works for IBM and is a network security architect. He is an ETSU graduate as well.

Chad Rikansrud is currently a Practice Director at NetSPI, a penetration testing company based in Minneapolis.

Eysha Shirrine Powers is the Chief Architect for the IBM Z cryptographic portfolio at IBM. Eshya's background is in security-related software development on a variety of key security-related components including access control. Java security and integrated cryptographic services.

The Department of Computing hosted the first "Mentoring Mondays" session of the fall semester on September 13. The session featured a panel of guest speakers who are "software engineers", representing the following companies: Amazon, Eastman, and IBM. Most of the speakers were relatively recent graduates, so they were able to offer first-hand experience on beginning a professional career in this exciting field. Watch the replay below!

What will I learn from the CS Mentorship?
According to Careerwise, mentorship builds both general and specialist knowledge. It hones leadership, decision-making and critical thinking skills. Other benefits of one-to-one mentoring include: creating more ways for mentees to get exposure to opportunities aligned with their interests and capabilities. -
Who can participate as a Mentee?
The CS Mentorship Program is open to all second-semester Computing majors. Typically, mentees will apply to the mentorship program during the spring semester of their Freshman year. -
How am I matched with a Mentor?
The Mentoring Steering committee will match you to a mentor that best aligns with your professional goals and intended career path. It is our hope that the mentoring relationship prepares you to obtain the job of your dreams. -

The ETSU-CM program aimed at developing the next generation of IT professionals. As a mentor, you are able to help mold and develop aspiring computing students to reach their full potentials.
