Jake got his start making flash games for himself and his friends to play, and then posted them to various websites. He developed a small reputation at his high school, which eventually led to a job helping Cmdr. James Wilmoth three hours each day with the day-to-day IT operations at his school, Sullivan North. That background pushed him towards his first degree in Computer and Information Sciences at Northeast State Community College in 2014, finishing it in May of 2016. He transitioned to ETSU that summer, then graduating from the undergraduate program in 2019. He then went on to finish the graduate program in May of 2022.
All throughout his education, especially during his undergraduate years, he tried to take as many electives and special topic courses as he could. He took everything from graphics programming with Dr. Roach to ethical hacking and computer forensics with Dr. Lehrfeld. Dr. Bennett took Jake under his wing in graduate school by serving as his thesis advisor. His master's thesis centered around combining two different artificial intelligence techniques to play the board game RISK.
