Experiential Learning in Action

Hands-On Opportunities
Students in the SARM program actively engage in hands-on learning through coursework and partnerships with organizations across the region. These experiences allow students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings while building professional skills and industry connections.

- Big South Conference Basketball Championships
- Bristol Motor Speedway
- Sycamore Shoals State Historic Site
- Tours to professional sports arenas
- Compete in national sports sales competitions
- Attend industry site visits including Dollywood and regional parks
Internships That Launch Careers
All SARM students complete a required internship designed to prepare them for full-time careers in the sport and recreation industries.
Undergraduate students complete a 12-credit hour internship (480 hours) in a professional setting. With support from faculty and advisors, students are well-prepared before applying—and many turn their internship into a full-time job after graduation.
Our graduates turn their hands-on experience into careers across a wide range of industries:
- Collegiate athletics
- Professional sports organizations
- Parks and recreation departments
- Event and facility management
- Sport marketing and communications
- Corporate partnerships and sponsorships
- Youth sports and programming
- Tourism and destination management
