THEC Releases 2013 Report Card on the Effectiveness of Teacher Training Programs
The Tennessee Higher Education Commission today released the 2013 Report Card for Teacher Training Programs in Tennessee. The report provides considerable information about the characteristics of program completers from the state's 44 programs that prepare teachers. The report only includes data for graduates who are teaching in an area for which there is a TCAP assessment or EOC assessment. The report included 167 ETSU teachers who graduated in the last three years (2011-12, 2010-11, and 2009-10).
ETSU's Beginning Teachers' TVAAS scores were compared with the TVAAS scores of all Beginning Teachers in the state. They performed as well as all other beginning Teachers on all TCAP tests as well as all End of Course (EOC) tests given in Algebra I, Biology I, English I, and English II. ETSU Beginning Teachers were also compared to the state's Veteran Teachers (those with more than 3 years of experience). In those comparisons, ETSU Beginning Teachers performed as well as Veteran Teachers in three of the TCAP subjects (Reading/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies) and in the EOC Composite, Algebra I, Biology I, English I, and English II. ETSU Beginning Teachers did not perform as well as Veteran Teachers on the TCAP Composite and the TCAP Math. View the full Report Card, with data on all Tennessee teacher preparation programs.
