The Department of Biomedical Health Sciences plays a vital, and rapidly growing, role in meeting the medical training needs of the region.
Since 2017, 88 graduates from the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences, have applied to Allopathic (MD) Medical School. Of these, 46 (53 percent) have been accepted. This is quite remarkable, since the national rate of acceptance to allopathic medical schools is about 40 percent.
Of further interest is that fact that, of the 42 that were not accepted by an allopathic medical school, 17 were subsequently accepted by a Osteopathic (DO) Medical School. The overall medical school acceptance rate for this group of 88 Health Science graduates, is a remarkable 72 percent.
There have been 557 students who graduated with a degree from the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences between 2017 and 2023. Of this number, we know the current status of 439 graduates: In addition to the 63 in Medical School, 89 are in Graduate School, 83 are employed, 48 are in Physician Assistant School, 31 in Pharmacy School, 18 in various therapy programs, 11 are in dental school and 52 are current in the application process.
According to Dean Randy Wykoff, “There are many outstanding majors at ETSU that prepare students for entry into graduate and professional schools, including those related to careers in the health professions. I am particularly proud of the remarkable success of the graduates from our Health Science program. Their faculty have prepared them exceptionally well, both in the classroom and in the laboratory."

"I am so grateful for the foundation that my studies at ETSU gave me to succeed in medical school and reach my lifelong dream of becoming a physician. My journey there took some unexpected twists and turns, but each step has brought me to this point, which I am so thankful for."
Total enrollment in the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences has almost doubled in the last decade, reflecting a growing recognition of the impact of these degrees
