JOHNSON CITY (Feb. 14, 2020) – The East Tennessee State University Department of Music continues its spring 2019 concert season with a number of performances featuring faculty and guest artists.
All of the following performances are open to the public:
- Yi-Yang Chen, ETSU assistant professor of piano, will present a Faculty Recital on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown Hall auditorium. He will perform masterpieces by Beethoven in honor of the composer’s 250th birthday, along with works by Granados, Prokofiev and others. The program will also include the United States premier of a new work by South African composer Jeanne Zaidel-Rudolph. Admission is free; a donation of $15 will be accepted.
- A free public Faculty Recital featuring three instructors of ETSU’s annual Reed Day – Drs. Heather Killmeyer, Lisa Perry and Emily Loboda – will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 3 p.m. in Mathes Hall. Reed Day features master classes and clinics in clarinet, oboe, bassoon and saxophone for educators and for students and amateurs of all ages and ability levels. The day begins at 8 a.m., and registration is $10 for students and free for current ETSU reed students.
- “Beyond the Guarded Gate,” a Guest Artist Recital to be held Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Mathes Hall, will feature pianist Kathleen Kelly and soprano Jennifer Cresswell in a program highlighting female poets and composers. Included are the Tennessee premier of Juliana Hall’s song cycle, “Through the Guarded Gate,” as well as Libby Larsen’s “The Peculiar Case of Dr. H.H. Holmes,” a retelling of the story of America’s first serial killer.
