Roundup: Arts events at ETSU in October
From musical performances to exhibits, there’s something at ETSU for every art and culture enthusiast.
Just as the leaves begin to change across the Appalachian Highlands, there are more than a dozen arts-related events happening at East Tennessee State University in October.Many events are open to the community, most at little or no cost.

Department of Music
On Oct. 6, Heather Killmeyer will give an evening recital at 7:30 p.m. at the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts.
The ETSU Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will give their first concert of the fall semester on Oct. 12 beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Center.
VOCES8, known as the “Rolls-Royce of a cappella ensembles,” is coming to the Martin Center on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Sterling Wilson, an ETSU student, will give a senior voice recital on Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Center.
The Palmetto Saxophone Quarter is coming to the Martin Center for a Guest Artist Recital on Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.
On Oct. 22, flute student Sierra Brown will give a recital at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Center.
The United States Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants will be at the Martin Center on Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
All voice faculty are coming together to perform a recital on Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Center.
Students Tate and Taylor Bowles will give a joint recital on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Center.

Theatre and Dance
“These Shining Lives,” the department’s first performance of the academic year, is happening at the Martin Center Oct. 5-8.
Reece Museum
“Ballet in Appalachia: 75 Years with Bristol Ballet” is open to the public through June 2024 at the Reece Museum.
On display through Oct. 13 at the Reece Museum is “An Exuberant Spirit: The Sammie L. Nicely Collection.”
ETSU Art Galleries
A student exhibit is on display Oct. 5-20 at the Tipton Gallery.
“Trapped in Forever Smile: Fiber Installations” by Jan-Ru Wan is at the Slocumb Galleries Oct. 10-Nov. 3.
From Oct. 26-Nov. 24 at Tipton Gallery, “Adapted/Adopted: Journey of Asianx Women” is on display.
Martin Center
Presented by 99.3 The X, Blue October is coming to the Martin Center on Oct. 10.
Bud Franke Theatre
“Cinema at the Bud Frank Theatre” kicks off at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5.
“Annihilation” is set for Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Bud Frank Theatre.
On Oct. 30 at 7 p.m., “Rocky Horror Picture Show” will show at the Bud Frank Theatre.
Media and Communication
The Highlands Horrorfest happens Oct. 27 at the Wallace Theatre.
