    The graduate certificate in biostatistics is designed to meet the needs of public health practitioners who desire additional training in biostatistics. It provides training in quantitative skills used in health departments, managed care organizations, community-based organizations, international health agencies, and state and federal agencies.

    Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

    - Use statistical techniques in the design of observational and experimental studies found in public health research and practice;

    Overview

    The Epidemiology Graduate Certificate Program is a 13-credit-hour program designed to provide the learner with a basic understanding of the concepts of epidemiology used in public health practice. Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease, illness, and injury.

    Epidemiology is the "basic science of public health," and as such epidemiologists are health professionals who study disease, illness, and injuries and attempt to determine: who becomes ill; why certain people are more likely to become ill: and how to prevent the spread of illness. Epidemiologists are public health professionals who investigate patterns and causes of disease and injury in humans.     The Global Health Graduate Certificate is a 17-credit program designed to provide specific knowledge and skills in global health from an interprofessional perspective and includes curricular and practice based opportunities, both here and abroad.

    Overview

    The Health Care Management Graduate Certificate Program is an interdisciplinary 13-credit-hour program of study designed to provide the learner with leadership and strategic management tools specifically for the health care environment. The focus of the program is to assist students to envision a broadened career perspective on the changing scope of health care delivery and management. Faculty from the Colleges of Business and Technology, Nursing, and Public Health design and teach the courses within the program.

      Certificates are a great way to gain a skill in a shorter time frame then a full degree! This certificate could be used by professionals to gain a promotion in their current careers. Additionally, students that complete a graduate certificate in Public Health are able to transfer those credits into our Master of Public Health or Master of Health Administration.

      The Health Data Analytics graduate certificate program is an interdisciplinary program that includes relevant courses from three different departments—Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Health Services Management and Policy, and Computing. This multi-disciplinary approach is not utilized by similar programs and gives students an opportunity to build skills in multiple fields at once. 

      Additionally, students enrolled in this program can transfer most or all credit hours into an MPH or MHA program in the College of Public Health.

      Students earning this certificate work in roles such as hospital administration, quality improvement, data analytics, health research, and program management.
    • Is a master’s degree required for admission? Does a student's undergraduate degree have to be in a related field?

      A master's degree is not required, and a student's undergraduate degree does not have to be in a related field.





    • What are the prerequisites?

      This graduate certificate is open to anyone with a bachelor’s degree. There are no restrictions on undergraduate majors and there are no prerequisites. However, students without previous coding experience in SAS, SQL, Python, or R will need to use their certificate elective to develop coding skills in SAS or SQL.

      Neither the GRE nor the GMAT are required.
