Online Faculty Training
Online faculty training is designed to empower you as an online course developer and instructor to use best practices for your online course. The training covers basic online best practices and fundamental D2L tools. The course is online and can be completed on your schedule at any time. The entire course takes an average user approximately 2 hours.
Returning Online Faculty
You may already have access to this course! View the video below on how to find the course in D2L. Faculty members who have already completed the required assessment are still in good standing. However, ATS encourages everyone to review the update. If you are unsure if you have already completed the assessment, contact email@example.com.
New Online Faculty
Faculty members assigned to online courses should be added to the training automatically. Adjuncts or new employees without ETSU credentials can sign up below. Once registered, refer to the video below to access the course.
Online Training Faculty Registration
Use the registration form above to request access. Primary online instructors should be automatically registered each semester.
Once registered, the training course can be found within your Select a Course menu.
Simply click on the 9-square grid icon and search for the course. The course is titled FTNG-ONLINE-TRAINING - Online Faculty Training.

Online Training Assessment
All ETSU faculty teaching synchronous or asynchronous online courses are required to complete training in online pedagogy and approved software applications adopted for online courses. The online training assessment will fulfill the Training Requirements for Online Faculty Policy, meeting SACSCOC requirements for teaching online. The assessment is located inside D2L in the Online Faculty Training course.
The assessment is made up of 30 questions and can be retaken as many times as is necessary. A score of 70% or higher is required to successfully complete the assessment at the minimal competency level.
Instructors and developers already experienced with teaching online may begin the
assessment without completing the online training.
Faculty may choose from several methods of training, including hands-on technical workshops provided by Academic Technology Services (ATS), one-on-one help sessions, or online training. Reach out to ATS for more information.
