Dear ETSU Basketball Team
Re: In support and solidarity for you
I write on behalf of the ETSU Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) to express our solidarity for you in the light of recent blowback from sections of our community over the exercise of your First Amendment Rights by kneeling during national anthems. We understand the hurt you may have felt for such a reaction from community members, especially during Black History Month. The purpose of your action is to illuminate persistent racism and discrimination blacks and other people of color continue to experience in this beloved country, and the BFSA stands by you for that.
It is the belief of BFSA that your actions should be a catalyst for community dialogue on diversity, equity, and inclusion, instead of acrimony and animosity. It is our hope that these reactions to your actions should ignite the community conscience for open dialogue about these issues and BFSA looks forward to being part of the conversation.
Go Bucs!
Sincerely,Hadii Mamudu, PhD, MPA, FAHA
BFSA Immediate Past President
