Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music Studies
Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music
The Bluegrass, Old-Time, and Roots Music program began in 1982 with the mission to bridge cultural connections between students and traditional music. That initiative soon blossomed into a prominent academic program that expanded its focus to include Scottish, Irish, old-time, and country music, as well as offering courses in music production and management. It helped spark a renaissance of traditional Appalachian music, with students performing at prestigious venues and receiving numerous awards, including Grammys and International Bluegrass Music Association honors. Today, ETSU is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Music for the program, which continues to attract students worldwide, with its influence enduring in both academic and cultural spheres.
