Scholarships
Barbara Jaffe Silvers Memorial Fund
- Open to History undergraduate students who have completed at least 45 hours of undergraduate
study (including 9 credit hours in HIST) and maintained a minimum of a 3.2 overall
GPA and at least a 3.5 GPA in HIST courses
- The same criteria apply to undergraduate transfer students
- Open to history graduate students
- Undergraduate student awards may be applied toward diverse academic uses including but not limited to: tuition, research funding, and internships
- Graduate fellowships may be used for diverse academic uses including but not limited to research funding, assistantship-buyout (i.e. paying a student a stipend comparable to a graduate assistantship to allow them to focus on research), and internships
- All applicants must submit:
- A 200 to 250-word essay, which answers the following three questions:
- Why did you choose your particular field of study?
- What do you plan to do in the field (e.g. PhD study or teaching career)?
- How will you use these funds?

- Applicants seeking funding for research, an internship, or similiar activity must also submit an itemized budget explaining the costs associated with the project to justify the amount requested

Morton A. Brown Scholarship Endowment
- Open to any junior or senior undergraduate History major, or graduate student in History with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Applicants must submit:
- A cover letter addressing their academic career to the current moment, including a description of topical focus, and/or how this scholarship will advance their studies (i.e. research, internships, etc.)
- The name and contact information for two references from the History Department or in a related position (i.e. work supervisor in a history setting such as a museum or historic site) should be included at the end of the cover letter

Crawford-Williams Scholarship Endowment
- Open to any member of the History Department, ideally targeted toward a someone about to begin a research project.
- The Crawford-Williams Scholarship cannot be used to reimburse the applicant for expenses already incurred nor to supplement other funding sources after a project is already started.
- Applicants must submit:
- A brief description of the project
- Estimated total expense of the project (i.e. an itemized budget including costs of travel, materials, etc.)
- Detailed explanation of where the money from the CWF will be spent
- Statement showing how the project will aid the History Department

Henrietta Marsh Hopkins Jernigan Scholarship
- Open to any rising senior History major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Applicants must submit:
- A letter of application discussing their future education plans and how they fit the Jernigan idea of being a well-rounded and enthusiastic person with a love of history and life-long learning.

William Flinn Rogers Scholarship Endowment
- Open to any undergraduate History major who has demonstrated academic excellence.
- Applicants must submit:
- A cover letter addressing their academic career to the current moment, including a description of topical focus, and/or how this scholarship will advance their studies (i.e. research, internships, travel, etc.)

Maxine Matthews Scholarship
- Open to any undergraduate History major who has demonstrated academic excellence.
- Applicants must submit:
- A cover letter addressing their academic career up to the present, including a description of topical focus and/or how this scholarship will advance their studies (i.e. research, internships, material cost, etc.)
