James, son of Brenda and Hall of Fame Alumni CPT James “Eddie” Reed, was born in Kingsport, TN. He attended ETSU, and joined the Eddie Reed Ranger Challenge Team, before transferring to Texas A&M and graduating in 1987. He later founded a moving company in California and continues his career working with Still Transfer Company in Kingsport.
Virginia, the daughter of Master Sergeant David Bolk, grew up in Roseburg, Oregon.
After earning her degree, she built a notable career in retail, serving as Divisional
Vice President at Macy’s, and later as the Vice President of Real Estate for Sunglass
Hut, a position she held for 18 years before retiring in 2021.
In 1998, while dating, James shared his love for ETSU and his father's legacy. In 2018, they even visited Vietnam to honor his father's memory at Fort Courage.
The Reeds' involvement with the ETSU ROTC program goes beyond measure; they actively
participate in numerous events to promote and support the cadets. James has traveled
to the prestigious Sandhurst Military Competition at West Point to cheer on the Ranger
Company, celebrating their rigorous training and dedication. He has also attended
the Bataan Memorial Death March, carrying the Guidon rain or shine, as well as participating
in Ranger Challenge competitions, the Xavier competition, the Mountain Man Memorial
Ruck, the Norwegian Foot March, and the Ranger Challenge tryouts.
Every year the Reeds present the Ranger of the Year award at ETSU ROTC Honors day.
Their unwavering support of the ROTC program has been essential in the development
of many successful young leaders.
