Teacher Leadership Concentration
The Teacher Leadership Cohort Program is a unique program leading to the Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) degree. It is offered for those who are currently teaching in grades K - 12 and already have earned a master's degree.
Cohort
All students in the Teacher Leadership concentration will move through the degree programs as part of a cohort group. Cohort students will begin the program in the same semester and continue through the program with the same group. Those who are accepted into the Teacher Leadership Cohort Program will begin taking classes as a group and will progress through the program together, forming a supportive professional network. Cohort members will take 31 semester hours of credit over five semesters. The majority of the cohort class sessions will be held at the off-campus cohort site.
Educational Specialist
The program is jointly offered by the Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at East Tennessee State University.
The focus of the program is on the professional development of practicing teachers who have a strong desire to enhance teaching and learning in their classrooms and become more effective leaders in their schools and school systems.
A major component of the program will be the preparation of teachers interested in the pursuit of their National Board Certification. However, national board certification is contingent upon meeting other requirements beyond the Ed.S. degree.
