The Department of Biomedical Sciences is truly multi-disciplinary and without walls, functioning in many ways like a center and creating unique opportunities for collaborations in research and teaching.

Primary mission of the Department of Biomedical Sciences is to explore and advance scientific knowledge to understand human health and disease, and to educate the next generation of biomedical scientists.

The main foci and strengths of departmental research are in the cardiovascular, neuroscience, cancer, infectious disease and inflammation fields, although other areas of interest and activity exist. Our laboratories are funded by Nathional Institutes of Health, Department of Veterans Affairs, American Heart Association and a varity of other agencies and sources.
