Community & Behavioral Health
The Department of Community and Behavioral Health advances health and well-being in the Appalachian Highlands and beyond through innovative education, impactful research, and collaborative practice. Through community-engaged learning, we prepare students and professionals to address social, behavioral, and structural factors that shape health, generate evidence-based solutions, and partner with rural communities to foster lasting well-being.
Welcome from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Community Health.
As Chair, I am pleased to welcome you to a department dedicated to improving the health and well-being of communities through education, research, service, and meaningful engagement. Our mission is rooted in the belief that lasting improvements in health are achieved when universities and communities work together to address real-world challenges.
Community engagement is at the heart of what we do. Through partnerships with local organizations, healthcare agencies, schools, and community leaders, our faculty and students apply knowledge beyond the classroom to support healthier communities and strengthen public health efforts. These experiences provide valuable opportunities for learning, leadership, and service while fostering meaningful connections with the people and populations we serve.
At ETSU, we are proud of our tradition of serving the Appalachian Highlands region and beyond. Guided by the university's commitment to excellence, community, and student success, we strive to make a positive impact through collaborative initiatives that address community needs and prepare the next generation of health professionals. The spirit of the Buccaneers, characterized by leadership, resilience, and service, is reflected in the work of our faculty, students, and alumni each day.
Whether through research, internships, service-learning, or community-based projects, our programs prepare graduates to make meaningful contributions in a wide range of health-related fields. Whether you are exploring our academic programs, considering a career in community health, or seeking opportunities to partner with our department, we invite you to learn more about the work we do and the difference we strive to make.
Thank you for visiting. We look forward to welcoming you to our ETSU community and working together to promote healthier futures.
