East Tennessee State University

Just as the seasons change each year and turn our region into a winter wonderland, a dazzling array of spring blooms and blossoms, a summer spent boating or swimming or hiking followed by the awesome colors of fall, so too is your University and your Foundation in the midst of significant, forward-looking change.

Consider all the meaningful changes that have been made recently. Those changes that are visible are many and reflect the generosity of hundreds of dedicated alumni and friends of the university:

  • New Baseball Stadium
  • Renovated Basketball Arena
  • New Ropes Course/Climbing Towers
  • New Football Stadium
  • New Arts Center (2017)
  • New Soccer Stadium
  • New Tennis Courts
  • Culp Renovation (2019)

These are just some of the visible changes. There are many more that are less evident but equally important.

Another major change is your university moving from the governance of the Board of Regents and being self-governed by way of the newly-formed local Board of Trustees. Recognizing this very significant change in governance, the ETSU Foundation Board of Directors appointed a special “task force” to study, assess, and amend the by-laws to assure directors are more attuned to the ongoing operations and results of the Foundation and that they acknowledge their required accountability and fiduciary responsibilities as directors.

An equally important change is the selection and hiring of 7 new development professionals who are imbedded in specific colleges and departments to work closely with the Deans and administrators to identify needs and how best to address and fund them. ETSU also hired 4 new advancement staff in the central Advancement Office.

A calming influence in the midst of this season of change is you. The passion and involvement of our members is unmistakable and consistent.  We look forward to navigating these changes together – for the ultimate benefit of East Tennessee State University and our students.
