Presenting Your Research
Whether you're looking to share your findings at campus symposiums, regional conferences, or prestigious national venues like the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), we'll help you find the perfect platform to showcase your work. See details below about presentation opportunities spanning diverse fields.
SoCon Undergraduate Research Forum (SURF)
An annual gathering of colleges and universities in the Southern Conference, the SURF is an opportunity for undergraduate students to present research and creative activities to peers. In 2025, the SURF is held October 24-25 at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC and open to all undergraduate students wishing to deliver a poster or oral presentation. Submit here before September 10 to participate. Email Dr. Cerrone Foster with any questions.
National Conference on Undergraduate Research
The National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all fields of study by sponsoring an annual conference for students. Unlike meetings of academic professional organizations, this gathering of student scholars welcomes presenters from all institutions of higher learning and from all disciplines. The 2027 Conference will be held April 12-14 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The ETSU Office of Undergraduate Research will sponsor 6–8 students to attend. This is an opportunity to share your work, connect with student researchers from across the country, explore graduate school and career opportunities, and represent ETSU!
Who is eligible? ETSU undergraduate students conducting research, scholarship, or creative activity under the supervision of an ETSU faculty mentor. Students from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to apply here.
Dr. Jay W. Boland Research Day
Dedicated to the memory of former faculty member Dr. Jay Boland, Research Day combines what were once three separate events – the Boland Undergraduate Research Symposium, the Appalachian Student Research Forum, and the Community-Engaged Learning Showcase – under one umbrella. This event highlights the work of undergraduate students, graduate students, residents and fellows and includes a poster session, oral presentations, creative displays, and a community-engaged learning showcase.
Tennessee Posters at the Capitol
Tennessee Posters at the Capitol is an annual event that draws undergraduate researchers from institutions across the state to interact with state legislators. This event also allows students to apply and communicate the significance of their research to the public and state legislators. Each year, ETSU sends 7 students to present posters of their work for this event. This year's event will take place on March 29-30, 2027. Posters are limited to STEM disciplines. Topics should fall under science, technology, engineering, or math to qualify. Please see the NSF definition of STEM. Who is eligible? Any ETSU undergraduate student researcher who is supervised by an ETSU faculty scholar member. Students from STEM majors are welcome to apply here. Deadline to apply is December 4, 2026.
Blue Ridge Undergraduate Research Conference
Originally called the Southeastern Undergraduate Research Conference, the Blue Ridge Undergraduate Research Conference is committed to providing a forum for southern Appalachian students to present the results of their research in a convenient and interesting setting. The 2026 conference was April 3 at Ferrum Collge. 2027 dates will be updated soon.
