"ETSU-Con began in 2013 with a simple idea: other places have these, why don't we?"
In April 2013, ETSU-Con, born of a group of friends with not much to do on the weekends here in Johnson City for nerdy folk, and a longing to help prospective, incoming, new, and current students find their passion in college, started its first 1-day show! With little experience and even less prep-time, the show still managed to eek out 900 attendees, a surprisingly great 1st showing!

This, along with newfound wisdom and experience, pushed us to greater and greater heights, seeing the show nearly double in number for 2014, and continues to grow and grow. With the expansion to a two-day show, plans in the works for future Friday night events as well, ETSU-Con, now in its 8th year(!) has seen amazing progress, ups and downs with renovations and the COVID-19 Pandemic, is finally back and ready for action!

ETSU-Con [pronounced ētsu con], proudly serves two main purposes: The 1st, to showcase what ETSU has and other colleges and Universities don't in terms of more 'nerdy' classes and programs. From the Japanese Cultural program, which started as a Minor and has now blossomed into a full Major Field of Study, to the Digital Media Program, consisently rated one of the top 10 in the South, to our unique Storytelling Department with it's famous International Storytelling Center partner in nearby Jonesborough, our fantastic Art & Graphic Design, Computer Science, and Media and Communications departments, and even our very own Cosplay Acting course and Stage Combat courses in our renowned Theatre Department, we're deeply proud of all of ETSU's excellent programs deserving special attention!
That attention comes in the form of panels, workshops, and talks given by noted ETSU professors on classes students may not have heard of or careers they may not have yet considered! Additionally, we proudly feature several guest speakers from various Pop-Culture fields, like Video Games, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Comics, Anime, and more, behind the screen and in front of it, in the Voice Acting booth and in the Writer's Room, to help students learn about their craft and how to find their way into a field they love.
The 2nd purpose is more simple: To give everyone a fun-filled weekend!
