Student Life and Enrollment Office Staff
Dr. Joe H. Sherlin, Jr.
Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment
Executive officer of the Division, reporting to the President, and serving on the University's Executive Leadership Team and the University Council, Dr. Sherlin provides leadership, develops and approves Division policy and procedure, budgets, staff appointments, appeals, salaries, requisitions, and travel requests, evaluates services, and coordinates strategic planning.
He is the Division liaison to campus and community constituents, Chairs the ETSU Student Life and Enrollment Council, and serves as a resource for students and student organizations.
Dr. Sam Mayhew
Associate Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment
Dr. Mayhew leads multiple enrollment initiatives at the university and serves on the University Council and Academic Council.
He is liaison to campus departments and supervises Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Military and Veteran Services, International Enrollment and Services, New Student & Family Programs, and provides oversight of Campus Dining Services.
Dr. Bill Kirkwood
Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment
Dr. Kirkwoodconducts special projects related to the division's student success goals, consults on matters related to student-facing communications from ETSU, and performs data analyses related to the division's goals.
Dr. Michelle Byrd
Associate Vice President and Dean of Students
Dr. Byrd serves as the chief student conduct officer, advises campus conduct boards, and serves as the advisor and as a member of the University Judicial Board. She acts as a campus resource for academic misconduct/integrity matters, and as an advocate for all students. She is the central office liaison for students of concern and CARE responses. She organizes and leads campus emergency responses for Student Life.
She supervises Campus Recreation, the Counseling Center, Disability Services, the Assistant Dean of Students, and the Undergraduate Student Success Specialist. She serves as advisor to the Student Government Association. Her areas of oversight include Bucky's Food Pantry and Little Bucs childcare program. She chairs both the CARE Team and the Mental Health Critical Incident Response Team (MH-CIRT) and is a member of the Threat Assessment Team.
Dr. Leah Adinolfi
Dean of Student Engagement and Director of Assessment
As the Dean of Student Engagement and Director of Assessment, Dr. Adinolfi provides oversight to six units within the Division, including the D.P. Culp Student Center Operations, Student Activities & Organizations, Leadership & Civic Engagement, Fraternity & Sorority Life, ID and Tech Services and the Student Media Center. Dr. Adinolfi also helps facilitate strategic planning and assessment of programs across the Division.
Dr. Jennifer Osborne
Assistant Vice President for Student Success
Dr. Osborne leads Division and university efforts to improve the success of undergraduate students. She reviews university data on student success and proposes and leads actions to achieve ETSU's student success goals. She provides high-level oversight of success technologies, academic support for students, academic advisement, career services, and testing services. Dr. Osborne works collaboratively with Student Life units to enhance undergraduates' first-year experience. She also works with the Office of the Provost and with academic deans to integrate student success elements into academic course design and university policy. She plays a leadership role in institutional strategic enrollment management initiatives.
Areas under Dr. Osborne's oversight include the Center for Academic Achievement, Career Services, University Testing Center, TRIO, and Academic Advisement within the Division.
Britney Deaver
Associate Dean of Students
Mrs. Deaver works closely with the Dean of Students to provide resources and support to students
of concern. She coordinates support for students navigating financial challenges by
coordinating the review process for grants from the Buccaneer Student Crisis fund,
the Bucs for Books fund, and assisting with the Buccaneer Completion Microgrant awards.
Mrs. Deaver takes the lead in responding to CARE reports. Additionally, she helps
to administer the student code of conduct. She supervises the Childcare Funding Coordinator,
the CARE Coordinators (Graduate Assistants), and the Basic Needs Coordinator at Bucky's
food pantry.
Mrs. Deaver serves as a member of the CARE Team, Threat Assessment Team, and with other committees across campus.
Dessi Ford
Director of Development, Student Life and Enrollment, Roan Scholars Program, and Honors College
Ms. Ford is responsible for developing and coordinating comprehensive strategic fundraising plans for the Division, the Roan Scholars program, and the Honors College; conducting activities to raise private support; cultivating donor relations with individuals, foundations, and the corporate and business sectors; and for performing other related duties as assigned.
Sharon Barger
Office Coordinator
Mrs. Barger provides administrative support to the Assistant Vice President for Student Success; course manager for ETSU 1020, Foundations of Student Success; serves on the Student Life and Enrollment Development Committee and the Blue and Gold Subcommittee.
Natasha Gardner
Office Coordinator
Ms. Gardner provides administrative support to the Dean of Students Office and the Student Government Association. She coordinates the Academic Status Appeal process. Additionally she manages budgets associated with emergency funding accounts; SGA Concerts and Homecoming; Buc Fund supported student travel; and Little Bucs. She assists with matters related to student conduct and CARE.
Lisa Odum
Office Coordinator
Mrs. Odum provides administrative support to the Associate Vice President of Student Life and Enrollment; serves on various committees to support the efforts of the Division.
