Career Work-Study
Summer Career Work-Study Program
The Career Work-Study program through Upward Bound is the culmination of months of self-exploration and work to prepare for a summer internship in the community. During their junior year of high school, students work with Upward Bound staff to delve into their personality, career interests, work-values, etc. During the Summer Upward Bound Program, rising seniors work a summer internship in a field relevant to their career interests. This experience gives students insight into the workplace and it also helps build onto their resume. Exposure to an area of interest to students can greatly assist in their process of choosing a major and career field to pursue in college.
Since many rising seniors wish to earn money to help pay for college, students who fully complete the Career Work-Study internship experience receive financial compensation from Upward Bound. This opportunity is provided to students to encourage full participation in all that the Upward Bound Summer Program has to offer so students don’t have to work a summer job outside of participating in Upward Bound.
In past years, students have been placed in a variety of settings in the Johnson City area including Mountain States Health Alliance, ETSU Child Study Center, Boys and Girls Club of Johnson City, local libraries, veterinary clinics, and a number of departments on ETSU campus.
