Transcripts
How do I send in a transcript?
You will want to contact the records office of all colleges and/or universities that you have attended in the past and request an official transcript to be sent to ETSU for review. Most institutions use an online electronic format that only requires you to add where you would like your transcript to be sent.
What is the difference between an unofficial and official transcript, which one will I need?
Official transcripts are sent directly from an official at a college or university and are the record required processing an application for admission. Unofficial transcripts can be printed by the student and cannot be accepted as part of the admissions process. Transcripts can also be considered unofficial when an official transcript is in a sealed envelope and is opened by someone other than the college or univeristy that it is intended for. For all admissions purposes you will want to have an official transcript sent directly to ETSU.
If asked for an email to send transcripts to, what would I provide?
All required admissions paperwork can be sent to documents@etsu.edu
How long does it take for transcripts to be processed?
Processing times vary by the time of year and volume of documents being recieved by the university, please allow at least 2-3 business days from a document arriving at ETSU to circle back for an update.

Credits
Do you have a maximum number of credits a student can transfer?
While we do not have a cap on the number of credit hours you may transfer to ETSU, there are a number of rules surrounding how those credits can be applied toward your progress toward a degree. Generally the following rules apply to allow a student to graduate from ETSU when transferring credits: 1. 120 semester credit hours are required. 2. 50 semester credit hours must be from a four-year institution. 3. At least 25% of credits earned must be from ETSU. 4. And, at least 6 credits earned within your major must be from ETSU.
How does the transfer equivalency work?
As part of the admissions process from all Transfer students, ETSU will evaluate official transcripts and create an individual transfer evaluation that will be availabe for students upon being admitted. ETSU can only accept credits from regionally accredited institutions. Our Transfer Website has a number of resources to help assist you with understanding the process of transferring credits, including a Transfer Course Equivalancey table.

Orientation
Where do I sign up for Orientation?
Admitted students will be sent an invitation to complete the LAUNCH Orientation and then choose a date for orientation that works for your schedule. For more information about our orientation please visit the website of New Student and Family Programs.
I have already been to college before why is orientation relevant for a transfer student?
Our Orientation is designed to help you with acclimating to the transition from a prior institution to ETSU. Students who attend orientation will have a chance to connect with resources across our univeristy. While we understand that transfer students have most likely already attended an orientation in the past, we believe the opportunity to connect specifically with ETSU's campus will provide transfer students the tools for success from their earliest interactions on campus.

If I am in an online program, am I required to go to orientation?
Online students are not required to attend an in-person orientation, however all students are required to complete the online LAUNCH Orientation. Once you have completed the launch, you will want to email orientation@etsu.edu to let them know you will be an online student.

Fresh Start/GPA Requirements/Appeals
How do I qualify for Academic Fresh Start?
The Undergraduate Academic Fresh Start program permits academic forgiveness to a Transfer Student or Readmission Student. An individual may apply for the Undergraduate Academic Fresh Start program prior to admission or readmission to ETSU as a degree-seeking student or at any time after the student has enrolled at ETSU. ETSU will honor an academic forgiveness plan offered at another institution, so long as it is clearly noted on the official transcript from the previous institution. A student may only be granted one (1) Undergraduate Academic Fresh Start.
More information about Academic Fresh Start (including specific eligiblity requirements) can be found HERE.
What are your recommendations for getting my GPA up to meeting requirements for transfer admission?
Student applicants, who do not meet our requirements for admissibility to ETSU, are encouraged to enroll at thier local community college and complete coursework that they had previously underperformed in. ETSU will exclude first attempts when a student complets a first re-attempt. Admissibility to ETSU is determined by the number of attempted credit hours combined from all prior colleges and/or universities.
Attempted Hours Required GPA 1 - 29.0 1.4 29.1 - 45 1.7 45.1 - 59.9 1.9 60+ 2.0 How do I reqest an appeal of my admission decision?
If you have been denied admission to ETSU as a transfer studen,t and would like to discuss your options please contact our Assistant Director for Transfer Recruitment and Student Success.

Helpful Transfer Terms
Transfer Agreements- University partners develop guidelines, processes, and supporting policy for transfer students that best serve our collective students through program level articulation agreements, reverse transfer agreements, and guaranteed program admission agreements with the aspiration for regionally created agreements to be more universally applicable across the state.
Advising Guides- Is an informal agreement between the respective departments at the community college level and ETSU which outlines courses that a student needs to take for that departmental degree.
Articulation Agreement-Formal partnerships between at least two institutions of higher education. Typically, these agreements exist between a community college and a four-year institution. The goal is to create a seamless transfer for students.
Consortium Agreement-A consortium agreement is a contract between two colleges/universities that recognizes your registration at each location for financial aid purposes.
Dual Degree-involves a student's working for two different university degrees in parallel, either at the same institution or at different institutions completing them in less time than it would take to earn them separately. ETSU currently has these in Nursing.
Dual admissions-Dual Admission Program is available to students transferring to ETSU from select Community Colleges. This program offers Community College students the advantage of a structured approach for completion of an Associate's Degree, followed by enrollment in pursuit of a Bachelor's Degree at ETSU. Dually admitted students first enroll at a Community College, complete the Associate's Degree, (A.A., A.F.A, A.S. and A.S.T) and then enroll at ETSU. This program will ease the transfer process and foster students' academic success. The advantage of the dual admissions agreement as opposed to an articulation agreement is that students have direct contact with both Community Colleges and ETSU faculty and staff throughout the program. In addition, the dual admission program provides enhanced advisement and transition support services.
