East Tennessee State University has limited licenses available to faculty, staff, and students for HIPAA compliant Zoom accounts (“HIPAA Zoom”). Generally, HIPAA Zoom is approved for internal educational uses which necessarily involves identifiable patient information. HIPAA Zoom is not a replacement for the ETSU Health approved telemedicine platform.
To request a HIPAA Zoom account, you must complete the online request process. From
start to finish this process may take up to 10 days. Please plan accordingly.
- To begin the process click here.
- In the description for use you must include a brief description of your intended use and the proposed location from which services will be provided.
Once you submit your online request, a ticket will be created. The ticket will be reviewed for appropriateness by the ETSU HIPAA Compliance Office. Thereafter, if approved, the ticket will be passed on to ETSU ITS to create your account. It is very important that you monitor your mailbox for an email with further instructions. Your account will not be released for use until you have completed all the steps.
When the process is complete, you will receive written confirmation that your HIPAA Zoom account is ready for use, with instructions on how to access your HIPAA Zoom account.
Please note: Creation of your HIPAA Zoom account is not a blanket approval of your workflow. You must work with all appropriate departments to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations (e.g. contracts, billing/coding, credentialing, licensure, telemedicine requirements, HIPAA etc.). If you are using HIPAA Zoom with a third party, you may also need to acquire additional approvals through the third party prior to use.
