University HIPAA training consists of two parts: HIPAA Part 1: The Privacy Rule and HIPAA Part 2: The Security Rule. Both parts and the accompanying assessments must be completed annually. When your training expires, you will receive automatic reminders from Nexus Trainer, as well as the HIPAA Compliance Office. Individuals with expired HIPAA training have a thirty day grace period to re-complete the HIPAA modules from the time in which they expire.
Training Instructions for ETSU Faculty, Staff & Students and MEAC Employees:
To begin the training click here: https://etsu-hipaa.nexustrainer.com/. Login with your ETSU username (do not include @etsu.edu) and password. East Tennessee State University should be selected from the Organization drop down menu. Once you are logged in, scroll down to view the “Assigned Training Modules.” HIPAA Part 1and HIPAA Part 2 should be listed. Click “Take Training” under actions when you are ready to begin.
If the modules do not appear, contact the HIPAA Compliance Office to have the modules added to your account 423.439.8533.
Part One and Part Two do not have to be completed in one sitting, but both parts (including the assessments) must be completed. After you submit the quiz for each module, a certificate of completion will be populated. You must achieve a score of 80% to pass. The modules can be repeated as many times as necessary.
Note to Non-Organizational users (i.e. you use a non-ETSU email to access the HIPAA training):
Your username is the first part of your email address -- firstname.lastname@example.org. Your password was setup by you the first time you logged into the Nexus Trainer system. If you do not remember your password, follow the instructions below under "Forgot your password?" to reset it.
If you are ETSU Faculty/Staff/Student or a MEAC employee, the HIPAA Training system utilizes the same password you use to check your ETSU email. If you have forgotten your password you must visit the Account Activate page to reset your password.
If you are a non-organizational user (i.e. you use a non-ETSU email to access the HIPAA training) click the “Forgot Password?” button on the Nexus Trainer login page and follow the instructions to reset your password.
Nexus Trainer operates best using Google Chrome or Firefox. If you are having trouble logging in using a different browser, try switching to Google Chrome or Firefox.
The ETSU HIPAA Compliance Office tracks training completion electronically. You may wish to print or save your certificates for your own documentation. To print your certificates login to the training website: https://etsu-hipaa.nexustrainer.com/. Scroll down. Under “Available Certifications” you should see the HIPAA Part One and HIPAA Part Two modules listed. On the right side, under the column “Actions” click “View Results.” This will allow you to print or save your completion certificate for each module.
