This hands-on workshop demonstrates how to utilize and understand the Degree Works degree audit tool and how to understand, review, and develop graduation plans in Degree Works.

Degree Works Exception Processes
Learn the processes and procedures for submitting undergraduate Degree Works Exception requests. This training will include scenarios and examples of best practice when submitting requests for curriculum substitutions, waivers, and Compass Core reallocation requests.

Early Outreach/Success Plans
Learn about the Early Outreach initiative and recommendations for engaging in meaningful discussions with students while utilizing the Academic Advisor Success Plan as a guide. Learn additional tools and strategies for intentional conversations with students regarding goal-setting, motivation, identifying challenges and barriers, utilizing resources, and building support systems.

FERPA/Privacy/First Mate
Learn information about the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, examples of private and sensitive information, and best practices in note-taking when reporting on a student who has disclosed private/sensitive information. This training also includes policies and procedures related to First Mate, ETSU’s system for students to authorize others to have access to their records.

Intro to Advising/Advising Best Practice
Learn the foundations of academic advising, common advising topics, NACADA Core Competencies and Values, and advising best practices.

Learning Support
This training includes information on the goals of the Learning Support program, how to determine students’ placement level, understanding how students satisfy Learning Support requirements, determining course sequencing when Learning Support course(s) are a required prerequisite for courses required for the major and/or other General Education/Compass Core courses, best practice for advisor referrals, and other associated procedures.

Managing Difficult Conversations and Responses to Students in Distress
Learn information about how to engage in challenging conversations with students who might be experiencing stress, shock, anger, denial, or difficulty accepting a situation. This training includes how to recognize signs of distress, steps in responding with understanding and empathy, and situations in which additional referrals and/or a Dean of Students Care Report would be recommended.

This training includes information about the services, responsibilities, and procedures within the three areas of the Registrar’s Office: Records, Graduation, and Registration. This training explains procedures such as record changes, registration processes, curriculum change procedures (change of major/minor/concentration), catalog change procedures, and graduation processes.

Learn information about processes and policies for undergraduate First Time Freshmen and Transfer student orientations. This training includes recommendations for student outreach and methods for understanding how to best prepare students for their next steps in enrollment.

Schedule Builder & Student Registration Procedures
Schedule Builder
- This hands-on workshop demonstrates how to utilize Schedule Builder, an online registration and planning tool. This tool allows students to generate optimal class schedules, block off specific breaks such as coordinating classes around work or sports schedules, and compare options among multiple schedule choices.

- This training includes information about registration processes, timelines, and Goldlink procedures such as the Add or Drop Classes Worksheet.

Transfer Works
Learn about a tool for prospective or admitted students to view how their courses might transfer to ETSU. This hands-on workshop will demonstrate how to utilize the Transfer Works tool, review examples of possible cautionary points, and discuss examples in which to refer a student to an academic advisor for further support and information.

Crafting Your Narrative Statement
This workshop includes guidance and recommendations for advisors who are developing their narrative statements for the Career Ladder advancement process. Participants will have opportunities for reflection, discussion, and opportunities to brainstorm the ways in which they have demonstrated achievement in each of the Career Ladder criterion. Participants should review the Career Ladder Manual for further information regarding the Narrative Statement guidelines and components.

Developing Your Advising Philosophy
This workshop includes guided reflections and opportunities for discussion regarding the development and refinement of an Advising Philosophy. This workshop is designed for advisors who are pursuing the Career Ladder advancement process.

This workshop includes examples and recommendations for the Supplemental Materials that are submitted as part of the Career Ladder portfolio. Learn how to use Microsoft Excel's pivot tables and charts to organize, analyze, and visualize advisor feedback surveys. This hands-on workshop is designed for advisors who are pursuing the Career Ladder advancement process and who will submit advisor feedback survey results as part of their Supplemental Materials for their Career Ladder portfolio.

This hands-on workshop includes tips and recommendations on advisor best practice for AI usage with Career Ladder materials. This training includes information regarding setting up platform preferences, citing AI usage, condensing materials in a concise and meaningful way, and platforms for long-form prompts such as comparing materials to the Career Ladder rubric.

Combining and Managing PDF Files in Adobe Acrobat
This hands-on workshop includes processes for combining all Career Ladder Supplemental Materials into one PDF, adding hyperlinks/anchors from the title page to the associated example, and adding page numbers to all documents.

Learn how to use Navigate360’s AI tool, the Meeting Summary Assistant, to assist with appointment documentation. This tool allows users to live transcribe appointments to generate summaries and notes from meeting transcripts and attachments.

Learn how to use Journeys in Navigate360 to organize student support into guided pathways, including assigning and monitoring student progress.

Navigate360: Student Staff Supervisor Support
This workshop equips supervisors with the knowledge and tools to effectively support student staff (i.e. tutors and peer mentors) using Navigate360. Participants will learn Navigate terminology to help align student staff training with program language, explore key tools and workflows, and develop strategies for troubleshooting common student staff questions and concerns.

Navigate360: V3 Reporting
Learn practical strategies for using Navigate360 V3 Reporting to build meaningful reports, apply filters and logic, and support data-informed advising. Participants will explore building a reporting hypothesis and reporting best practices, including saving frequently used reports as templates to promote consistency and efficiency.
