SUMMER INTERNSHIP
The summer internship program was developed to provide an exposure to medical education for those interested in pursuing a career in medicine. Students are exposed to many aspects of medical education including the Gross Anatomy lab, Patient Simulation involving residents from many specialties at ETSU, and repair and maintenance of the Human Patient Simulators.
The internship is open to anyone who desires to investigate what is available in medical education. The two prerequisites are that the student is a Sophomore or higher in college, and has a Healthcare or Biomedical concentration. At this time, we are only accepting four or five interns per summer. Semester internships are available to people who are taking a break from their studies during the normal school year.
To obtain more information please contact Jake Drumm via email with a letter of interest and a brief resume.

RURAL HEALTH COMMUNITY PROJECT
The goal is to foster support and encouragement for rural health careers among promising students in the state of Tennessee or surrounding states who are preparing to enter primary care medicine.
Students have the opportunity to work in a rural community under a healthcare provider for six to eight weeks. Students work on a project that addresses an identified community health problem and may handle assignments such as collecting data, interviewing, preparing health education materials, or working in health promotion.
HOUSING IN THE COMMUNITY
A stipend is provided to facilitate housing in the local community. It is an important goal of the project for students to spend time in the community beyond the work day to learn more about the social, economic, and other issues that affect health in that community.
CRITERIA FOR STUDENTS
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled as a rising junior or senior in a college or university
- Be a resident of Tennessee or from a surrounding state
- Have maintained a GPA of at least 3.2 cumulative
- Provide a letter of recommendation from their pre-medical advisor
- Submit an application and a personal statement

Students will be offered an opportunity to indicate a preference for participating in one of the projects.
