What is TransACCESS?
TransACCESS is a project being conducted by researchers across multiple departments at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) including Family Medicine, Psychology, and Social Work. The project is funded by a grant from ETSU's Research Development Committee.
The TransACCESS project includes two research studies: one interview study, one survey (sign up here!).
We will also hold a training event online in Spring 2021 for primary care providers and those integrated in primary care who are interested in learning more about transgender healthcare delivery. For more information, click here

Why is the project happening?
Transgender folks in the US and especially in this region face numerous barriers to accessing healthcare. The goals of the project are 1) to better understand the healthcare experiences of trans folks in South Central Appalachia in order to share this knowledge with other researchers, policy makers, and practitioners and 2) to develop and implement training for healthcare professionals to improve their understanding of the needs of transgender folks in the region. The project will fill in missing knowledge about trends and status of healthcare for trans folks in this region. -
Who can participate?
There are several ways to participate in this project. We welcome trans folks from the region, providers, and community members in general. (See above links.)
We also welcome volunteers who would like to help us with community outreach. If you're interested in volunteering to be a part of organizing for this project, please email us at TransACCESSproject@gmail.com
