Opportunities at Forensic Center
Job Shadow / Visitor Experience
The William L. Jenkins Forensic Center offers individuals the opportunity to participate in a one-day job-shadowing experience with forensic center staff. This experience is designed to provide insight into the daily operations of a forensic center and the various roles involved in medicolegal death investigation.
Depending on the activities scheduled for the day, participants may have the opportunity to:
- Attend Morning Report, including case presentations and discussions.
- Observe autopsy examinations.
- Accompany staff on death scene responses, when appropriate.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit a 250-word essay (maximum 350 words) describing their career
goals and educational objectives. Applicants seeking academic credit must also submit
a current resume/CV and a letter of recommendation from a professor.
Job-shadowing experiences are scheduled on designated Mondays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Participants are expected to attend the entire four-hour session.
Unpaid Internship
The William L. Jenkins Forensic Center offers unpaid internship opportunities for students seeking an extended educational experience in forensic science, forensic pathology, or a related field. Interns must complete the minimum number of hours required by their academic program.
Interns will be assigned specific duties and responsibilities based on the needs of the Forensic Center and their educational objectives. Depending on their assignment and the activities available during their internship, interns may also have opportunities to:
- Attend Morning Report, including case presentations and discussions.
- Observe autopsy examinations.
- Participate in death scene responses, when appropriate.
- Review cases and discuss forensic pathology with a pathologist.
Application Requirements:
Applicants must submit a current resume/CV, a personal statement describing their
interest in the internship, and at least three professional or academic references.
Applicants seeking academic credit must also submit a letter of recommendation from
a professor.

Interviews: March, for summer internship placements

- Be at least 18 years of age
- Sign a confidentiality agreement for educational visitors
- Provide documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination or sign a waiver (if observing in the morgue)
- Provide any required evaluation forms on the day of attendance
