Rural Programs
Introduction
Thank you for exploring ETSU-Quillen College of Medicine Rural Programs. Our Rural Programs offer students from high school through medical school opportunities to learn more about living and practicing medicine throughout the Appalachian Region. We strive to carry out the mission of the Quillen College of Medicine which is to train students to become primary care physicians for rural and underserved communities. Quillen ranks third in the nation for having the most graduates practicing in underserved areas.
If you are a high school or college student from a rural or underserved area and want to practice primary care please look at our EQUIP program. This pipeline program provides you with guidance and experiences that will strengthen your medical school application. If you are a high school student please look at our Rural High School Careers Fair and our Rural High School Medical Camp. For our college students we offer a summer program in rural research and another for community involvement and assisting with physician shadowing.
Our hope is that you will become a successful applicant to the Quillen College of Medicine and participate in our Rural Primary Care Track. This special track embeds the medical student into rural medicine topics and clinical activities from the onset of medical school allowing them to become successful physicians for our region. Please reach out to our staff for any questions regarding Rural Programs at the Quillen College of Medicine
