The County Commission functions as the legislative body of county government. There are five standing committees and many other ad hoc committees by which the Commission oversees the governance of the county. Washington County, Tennessee is the State's oldest county, having been established in 1777, while it was still a part of North Carolina.
Dr. Baker is an assistant professor in the College of Public Health and Chair of ETSU's Interprofessional Education and Research Committee. Her research focuses on mother-daughter communication related to health risk communication, with a particular focus on indoor tanning, and prescription drug abuse. She teaches in the areas of systems approaches to public health, health communication, and community organization. She received a BS in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University, an MPH in Maternal and Child Health from UAB, and a DrPH in Community Health from ETSU. She was a former Niswonger Scholar and remains involved with that organization.
