Graduate Certificate Programs

A graduate certificate is 4 to 7 courses selected to provide career competency in specific fields of study.
Courses in the Graduate Certificates may be applied to their respective MHA or MPH degrees, should the student choose to continue his/her education.

It is important to note that to be eligible for federal financial aid loans, students enroll in at least 5 credit hours in their program of study. Contact a financial aid counselor for more information.

Biostatistics
Biostatistics is a quantitative field focusing on collection, management, and analysis of public health data. Students in this field will learn the theoretical and practical aspects of designing and analyzing public health data.

Epidemiology
Epidemiology is a field that examines and determines the reasons and causes of diseases and health-related outcomes in population groups. Students in this field will learn how to use public health data to evaluate and identify the causes and public health impact of different diseases. This certificate is available fully online.

Gerontology
Gerontology is the study of the social, psychological and biological aspects of aging. It is distinguished from geriatrics, which is the branch of medicine that studies the diseases of older adults. This certificate is available fully online or on campus.

Global Health
The Global Health Certificate is a 17-credit program of study designed to provide the learner with specific knowledge and skills in global health from an interprofessional perspective. The certificate is designed for learners interested in global health. The certificate includes curricular and practice based opportunities, both here and abroad. The Global Health Certificate is open to graduate and professional students interested in global health and is available on campus and fully online.

Health Care Management
Health care management is multidisciplinary field of inquiry and practice concerned with the organization, financing, delivery and quality of health services for individuals and populations. This certificate is available fully online and mostly on-ground. Rolling admissions: Students can start the program in the fall, spring, or summer semesters.

Health Data Analytics
This is a multidisciplinary program that includes developing and building skills in the foundations of epidemiology and biostatistics, data visualization, data modeling, and using data to inform decisions to improve organizations and programs. There is no requirement for previous coding experience (such as SAS, SQL, or Python coding), but the program will be more flexible for students who have previous coding experience.
Students enrolling in the Health Data Analytics Graduate Certificate program can begin as early as the Fall 2020 semester and can complete the entire program in as few as nine (9) months!

Public Health
Public Health explores community and health administration and policy issues while building a strong foundation in population health sciences, including epidemiology and environmental health. This certificate is available fully online or on campus. Rolling admissions: Students can start the program in the fall, spring, or summer semesters.

Rural Health
THIS CERTIFICATE IS NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS.
Rural Health studies individuals and rural communities through teaching, research, and service centering around social and behavioral factors associated with health status and behavior.
This certificate is best started in the spring semester. Two courses are held 7-8 full days in rural communities in Northeast Tennessee.
