ETSU Doctoral Student Marc Stevens, on behalf of co-authors representing two departments in the College of Public Health, presented at the American Heart Association: Epidemiology and Prevention Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism (EPI-NPAM) 2013 Scientific Sessions held in New Orleans.
In addition to Mr. Stevens, the poster "Cesarean Section and the Risk of Overweight in Grade Six Children" represented the work of faculty members Liang Wang, Arsham Alamian, Jodi Southerland, Kesheng Wang and Jim Anderson. Dr. Southerland is in the Department of Community and Behavioral Health. The other faculty are from the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology: Dr. Liang Wang and Dr. Alamian, Epidemiologists; Dr. Kesheng Wang Biostatistician; and Dr. Anderson; Chair.
The goal of EPI/NPAM "is to promote the development and application of translational and population science related to the prevention of heart disease and stroke and promotion of cardiovascular health." It brings together researchers from both the Epidemiology and Prevention Council and the Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism Council of the American Heart Association. According to AHA, "The program . . . .highlights strategies to translate advances in basic and clinical science into efforts to promote cardiometabolic health in both the clinical and population setting."
