Being a Global Citizen Scholar will give you access to:
GCS Curriculum: The Global Citizen Scholars program at ETSU offers a distinctive honors curriculum that provides scholars with knowledge, skills, and experiences to develop in global awarenes,responsibility, and participation. The program includes a study abroad course the summer after the first year.
Experiential Learning Opportunities: The program both includes and encourages experiential learning opportunities like study and/or research abroad, internships, and community engagement.
GCS Scholarships (4 years): The generous GCS scholarship package includes $12,000 for the first year, funding for the required study abroad in the summer after the first year, and increasing amounts of funding for each successive year that students are in the program ($12,500, $13,000, $13,500).
A Cohort Experience: The Global Citizen Scholars program admits 25 students each year who go through the program as a cohort. GCS students are members of the Honors College family and have the opporunity to take classes and collaborate with students in other honors programs.
Membership in the Honors Living and Learning Community: First and second year Global Citizen Scholars are required to live in the Honors Living and Learning Community where, along with other honors students, they will have additional co-curricular support and opportunities.
Advising and Mentoring: Global Citizen Scholars get advising and mentoring from Honors College faculty and staff as well as peer mentors.
Support in Applying for Nationally Competitive Scholarships: We encourage and assist students in applying for Nationally Competitive Scholarships like the Gilman, Critical Language, Goldwater, Truman, Udall, Humanity in Action, and others.
Priority Registration: Honors students are permitted to register for courses early, which insures an opportunity to register for desired courses that best fit with their schedule.
Honors Spaces: The Honors College offers dedicated study spaces and computer labs for its students. We also provide free printing.
Leadership: Global Citizen Scholars have the opportunity to serve on the Honors College Student Council and other Honors College committees in order to have input as to the Honors experience at ETSU.
Social Events and Activities: As a community of high-achieving and highly engaged students in a variety of honors programs, the Honors College regularly hosts co-curricular and social events for members of the honors community.
