Welcome to the National Pan-Hellenic Council at East Tennessee State University!
The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) at ETSU serves as the governing body for
the seven (7) historcially African American Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities
represented on campus. Often referred to as the "Divine Nine", these organizations
promote unity, academic excellence, social consciousness, and service among their

The NPHC at ETSU promotes interaction through forums, meetings and other mediums for the exchange of information and engages in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. | ΑΚΑ
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in
Washington D.C. on January 15th, 1908. The first Greek-letter organization for African
American women. Alpha Kappa Alpha’s motto is “By culture and By merit” and are prominent
in promoting sisterhood, scholarship, and service to all mankind while also being
committed to empowering women and making a positive impact on our communities. Stay

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. | ΑΦΑ
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was founded on the campus of Cornell University on
December 4th, 1906. This historic fraternity is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter
organization established for African Americans. The fraternity's motto, "First of
All, Servants of All, We Shall Transcend All," encapsulates its commitment to leadership
and service. Symbolized by the Great Sphinx of Giza and adorned in black and gold,
Alpha Phi Alpha emphasizes strength, resilience, and the intrinsic value of its mission.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. | ΔΣΘ
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University in
Washington D.C. on January 13th, 1913. With a commitment to sisterhood, scholarship,
and service, Delta Sigma Theta has been a catalyst for social change and community
upliftment. Symbolized by its distinctive crimson and cream colors and the torch emblem.
Delta Sigma Theta’s motto is “Intelligence is the Torch of Wisdom”. Stay connected

Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. | ΚΑΨ
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on January 5th, 1911 at Indiana University
in Bloomington. Kappa Alpha Psi’s motto is “Achievement In Every Field of Human Endeavor”.
Symbolized by its crimson and cream colors and the Kappa Diamond emblem, Kappa Alpha

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on November 17th, 1911 at Howard University
in Washington, D.C. Omega Psi Phi’s colors are royal purple and old gold. Symbolized
by the iconic Omega symbol, Omega Psi Phi places a strong emphasis on fostering academic
excellence and social responsibility. Omega Psi Phi’s motto is “Friendship is essential

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded January 9th, 1914 on the campus of Howard
University in Washington D.C. Phi Beta Sigma’s motto is “Culture for Service, Service
for Humanity” making significant contributions to education, civic engagement, and
the overall betterment of society. Phi Beta Sigma is symbolized by its royal blue
and pure white colors and the iconic dove symbol, dedicated to fostering academic

Zeta Phi Beta Fraternity, Inc. | ΖΦΒ
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was founded on January 16th, 1920 at Howard University
in Washington, D.C. Committed to scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood,
Zeta Phi Beta has played a significant role in promoting social awareness and community
engagement. Zeta Phi Beta’s motto is “A Community-Conscious, Action Oriented Organization”
and their colors are royal blue and pure white with the dove symbol. The sorority
