What is Sustainability?
The UN World Commission on Environment and Development define sustainability as, "Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." It is an integrated approach that considers environmental concerns along with economic development and social systems that are in place at present. Sustainable practices nurture, fortify and uphold healthy people on a healthy planet. The ETSU Department of Sustainability works to integrate sustainable practices into all aspects of campus life and ventures to inspire our community to incorporate sustainability into their work, research, and daily habits.
