EcoNuts

The EcoNuts are student workers employed by the Department of Sustainability. The EcoNuts provide education, outreach, and support to the ETSU campus community. The group consists of students from all majors that are working towards one common goal, a sustainable ETSU community. Through their work, they gain experience in engaging with the campus community and public and take a role in actively promoting sustainable practices.

Education and outreach event topics covered by the EcoNuts can vary from energy use, waste reduction, consumerism, recycling and many more. They gain experience through activities such as staffing educational or activity tables, sorting recycling, conducting Weigh the Waste events and collaborations with other ETSU organizations.

Through engagement with the campus community and peer-to-peer education, the EcoNuts help promote understanding among students, faculty and staff about how they can reduce their environmental footprint. They also help educate about campus initiatives that are driving ETSU to become a more sustainble campus.

Meet your 2022/2023 Eco-Nuts!

Bryson Booth

Hey, I'm Bryson! I'm from Rockwood, TN.  I double major in Geosciences in the Environment and Japanese Language. This is my second semester as an EcoNut and I serve as the ETSU Community Garden Manager.

Colton Hall

I am Colton Lane Hall. I was born and raised in Bristol, TN. I came to ETSU to study Digital Media with a concentration in Game Design. I have been a part of EcoNuts for 3 years! Growing up on a small farm, sustainability has always been important in my family as conserving and reusing are two extremely important skills to have. I chose to be an EcoNut to learn all I could about sustainability in order to educate my peers and to be able to take something unique into my career in a field that often neglects sustainability.

Marisa Sardonia

My name is Marisa.  I am from Knoxville and I’m majoring in Media and Communications.  I have been a part of EcoNuts for 3 years! I love watching movies, writing, and discovering new music. I am passionate about sustainability because I believe in continuously improving the environment we live in. Earth is our one and only home, so we should strive to cherish and nurture it. 

Jolene Batie

Hey! My name is Jolene and I am a part of the EcoNuts. I am from Portland TN, and I am majoring in history. Sustainability is important to me because all living creatures deserve a clean, bright future. Avid lover of critters and you'll probably see me on campus taking pictures of slugs.

Anna Jackson

Hi, my name is Anna! I am a freshman here at ETSU majoring in Clinical Psychology. I love house plants, hiking, swimming, and knitting. This is my first year with EcoNuts and I am super excited to be a part of this program.
