BUILDING PROJECTS
An unprecedented era of expansion and growth continues at ETSU. In recent years, new projects have included the student parking garage, the renovation to the D.P. Culp Student Center and Lamb Hall, and the construction of the Martin Center for the Arts, William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium, the Johnson City Day Center, and a Data Center. But that was just the beginning.
Presently, there are three major capital projects in the planning and design stages. While state funding has been awarded for these projects, the final cost for each includes a private fundraising requirement that must be met.
These projects include:
Academic Building
For nearly all ETSU undergraduate students, their Buccaneer journey begins in a classroom
with faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences. Within these walls, the first-year
experience of our undergraduate students is shaped as friendships are made, ideas
are exchanged, and minds are challenged. The construction of a new Academic Building
will launch a transformative era for ETSU undergraduate students. This building will
provide state-of-the-art instructional space for the departments of Literature and
Language, Communication and Performance, and Mathematics and Statistics. It will be
situated in the heart of campus adjacent to the Quad and the recently renovated D.P.
Culp Student Center at the site of the 105-year-old Campus Center Building, which
will be demolished to allow for this new construction. The project will also allow
for much-needed renovations to faculty offices and classrooms within Burleson Hall
and Gilbreath Hall. 
The ETSU Academic Building will feature flexible classrooms, learning laboratories, student gatherings and collaboration atriums, and study spaces for both undergraduate and graduate students in Literature and Language, Communication and Performance, and Mathematics and Statistics. Courses taught in the Academic Building develop the written and oral communication, quantitative and problem-solving skills that employers seek. Focusing on the development and retention of first-year students will help increase the number of graduates entering the workforce, as well as ensure they are better prepared to do so.

Brown Hall Renovation
ETSU is a highly respected destination for students interested in a career in science
or health care. For nearly all of these rising health care providers and researchers,
that journey begins in Brown Hall – constructed in 1940s – where they take pre-requisite
and advanced-level courses in chemistry, biological sciences, physics, and astronomy.
In addition, hundreds of students in non-science programs take courses in Brown Hall
every semester to satisfy general education core requirements. A major two-phase renovation
is planned for Brown Hall.
Funding for Phase 1 of the project was been awarded by the State of Tennessee for
fiscal year 2022-2023. The $47.7 million project will focus on the north side of
Brown Hall and will allow for significant enhancements to the teaching labs, classrooms,
offices, research areas, and collaborative spaces for students, faculty, and staff
in Biological Sciences and Chemistry.
ETSU will also seek funding for a second phase that will focus on the south side of Brown Hall and will continue the major enhancements to modernize instructional labs and classrooms with technology focusing on Physics and Astronomy and provide combined undergraduate research and teaching spaces for all units including Biological Sciences and Chemistry.

Integrated Health Services Building
ETSU has been a national leader in interprofessional education (IPE) since the early 1990s. Interprofessional health care teams enhance the quality of patient care by lowering costs, decreasing length of stay, and reducing medical errors. The Integrated Health Services Building will bring the skills and teamwork developed in simulation labs to the clinical setting and serve as the capstone of ETSU’s commitment to interprofessional education between our health science colleges.
This $43.9 million facility will deliver best-in-class health care to our community
in addition to offering our students an authentic training environment. Providing
our students with a clinical setting to work as a team in real-world conditions will
help them become exceptional clinicians in their respective disciplines. The Integrated
Health Services Building will promote synergies and partnerships, leading to improved
community health and workforce development.
The Integrated Health Services Building will be uniquely designed to support the team-based
care model. The facility will have spaces allowing for collaboration and discussion
while maintaining patient privacy. Services provided in the Integrated Health Services
Building will include Family Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Diabetes Management, Physical
and Sports Medicine, Dental Hygiene, and Social Work.

SCHOLARSHIPS/ASSISTANCE FOR STUDENTS
Education is a pathway to a better life and to dreams being realized. Unfortunately, for many students, tuition and other costs can be a deterrent to pursuing a college degree.
Scholarships and other types of assistance open a world of possibilities for these students. Whether it is awarded based on academic merit or financial need, scholarships have a profound difference in the lives of students, making the dream of earning a degree possible. With scholarship support, transformational opportunities are within their reach.
Donor support is also used to provide emergency assistance to students when they face unexpected obstacles along their journey. This funding allows them to stay on track toward graduation by overcoming any barriers to academic success.
In addition, our friends have provided funding to support research activities, special projects, and a number of one-in-a-lifetime opportunities and high-impact experiences, such as studying abroad or attending national professional meetings.

Your support ensures that ETSU can recruit and retain talented faculty who prepare tomorrow’s leaders. Gifts from our donors can be used to create opportunities and experiences for our faculty in numerous ways, including

PROGRAM SUPPORT
Gifts from our donors are used each day to strengthen and enhance our academic and
service programs at ETSU in ways such as technology and equipment upgrades, outreach,
or to fund new initiatives. Every program at ETSU has its own Foundation account that
receives financial gifts. In some cases, donor support has been used to launch new
centers, including the Center for Rural Health Research, or academic programs including
Pharmacy or Social Work.
CAMPUS ENHANCEMENTS
Thanks to our many donors and friends, new facilities have been added and much-needed
critical updates were made possible, all creating a supportive learning environment
and home for our students and preserving the beauty and the uniqueness of the ETSU
campus.
AREAS OF GREATEST NEED
Many gifts are made to the university that are not designated for a specific purpose
or initiative. These gifts are classified as unrestricted.
Unrestricted gifts are aligned to support major priorities at the institution and
provide the flexibility for ETSU to use them where the needs are the greatest at that
time. These gifts are more flexible in nature and can be used in critical areas such
as scholarship support, technological updates, or the student crisis fund.
