Understanding the link between Energy and Activity.
The goal of the Frasier lab is to understand the link between cellular energetics and cellular excitability in the brain and heart. The mitochondria is more than just the "powerhouse of the cell". It plays an important role in cell signalling, ionic balance, and reactive oxygen species generation and balance. As such, mitochondrial function lies at the intersection of multiple diseases. Our lab uses models of pediatric epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, and ischemia-reperfusion ("heart-attack"). Using state-of-the-art techniques we are unraveling the link between the mitochondria and heart in these diseases.
