ETSU IRB Fee Schedule
The ETSU and ETSU/VA Institutional Review Board (IRB) assesses a fee for all non-VA industry–supported initial IRB applications requiring review by either the expedited or full convened IRB. In addition, a fee for continuing review and review of modifications of non-VA industry-sponsored research will be assessed. The fees will be used to support the administrative costs associated with reviewing research.
Industry-Supported is defined as: When a commercial entity contributes to the design or conduct of the study (as evidenced by a sponsor’s protocol, sponsor’s identification number and/or Investigator’s brochure); coordinates the study as a multi-center trial; reimburses for costs associated with conducting the trial; or will have access to, or publish or present the data gained from conducting the trial.
The fee schedule is as follows:

| Institutional Review of Initial External IRB Reliance | $1,000.00 |
- IRB applications that are dependent on State, Federal, non-profit foundations, or internal funds (or non-funded studies) will be excluded from IRB fees.
- Under extenuating circumstances, the Vice Provost for Research may waive the assessment of IRB fees with a formal request from the Investigator and appropriate documentation to support such circumstances.
- It is expected that Investigators or sponsored programs staff incorporate and negotiate applicable IRB fees into the research contract.
