General information regarding New Student Orientation
Below is general information regarding New Student Orientation. If you have specific questions or need more information please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org . Provide your name and E number for reference.
When and how will I be contacted regarding Orientation?
We begin contacting students via their ETSU assigned email as early as December for students entering in the summer and fall, and October for students entering in the spring semester. Your email information was listed in your acceptance letter.
When should I register for Orientation?
You should register early to receive your first choice of dates. Space is limited and dates will close when filled, even for virtual orientation. You will be sent a confirmation email to your email account once you have completed registration for orientation.
What are the dates for New Student Orientation?
The 2020 Orientation Dates can be found HERE.
If all orientations are virtual, why is there a date?
Your now virtual orientation will be asynchronous (students can complete at their own pace). So, while you don't have to complete anything on your scheduled orientation date, it is there as a guide and you should expect to complete your experience on or prior to that date.
Once you sign up you will be emailed confirmation details about how to complete your orientation, become engaged with the ETSU community, as well as the next steps regarding course registration.
Each date still has a capacity so we encourage students to sign up as soon as possible.
What happens at LAUNCH and during the Virtual Orientation?
The LAUNCH programs provide a wealth of online resources designed to assist you in your transition to ETSU. It is a great pre-virtual orientation tool.
Virtual orientation is designed to replicate what you would have encountered at a traditional, on-ground experience. It's full of great videos, interactive pieces, campus tours, and shows you about the academic advising and course registration process. You'll even have a chance to sign up for a zoom small group session with current leaders and other incoming students!
What should I wear to on ground Orientation?
N/A for 2020.
Dress for orientation is casual. You may want to bring a light jacket or sweater since we will be in air-conditioned facilities. Wear comfortable shoes for walking around campus. Check the weather and plan accordingly. You may be outside and moving from building to building. Bring an umbrella or rain jacket if there is a chance of rain.
How do I change my virtual orientation or add additional guests?
Once you have made a reservation and wish to change the session date you can log into the orientation system and change your date at any time. Reservations can be changed to another virtual orientation if space is available. You will be sent a confirmation email to your email account once the request has been processed.
Adding guest emails to your orientation information allows us to send a custom parent/family edition of virtual orientation to them. In order to add a guest you may log back into the orientation system and add a guest at any time. It is free to add guest information.
What if I or a guest needs special accommodations during Orientation?
Parents, guests, or students requiring special assistance or interpreters for the hearing-impaired should contact the Office of Disability Services with questions at (423) 439-8346 to request an accommodation.
What are the required Immunizations?
It is recommended that you submit appropriate and complete immunization documentation to the Health Clinic two weeks prior to your orientation. Failure to do so could impact your ability to register for classes. Please click HERE to see immunization requirements and important information. Please read this information thoroughly.
What if I am not taking classes on the main Johnson City campus?
If your program of study is completely online OR you are taking all coursework away from the main Johnson City campus, be aware that you will receive a separate Online/Cohort invite to complete.
Those students who plan to take all of their classes at ETSU Kingsport will have the opportunity to meet with Kingsport academic advisors during the main campus orientation by attending an information session and/or advisement. In addition, students who want to take their classes in Kingsport can contact the ETSU Kingsport Advisement team at 423-392-8000 after they’re admitted for further information and/or to schedule a pre-advisement appointment prior to attending their scheduled orientation.
