Reflection on Using High-Impact Teaching Practices
Thanks to the Gen Ed bootcamp (Institute), I had the confidence and support to implement HITPs into a large lecture hall of 160 students. This was a semester of trial and error. Movement was stifled, learning was not. I adjusted assignments to an online/interactive format using Microsoft Forms and Kahoot. I dialed into all I had learned at bootcamp to create a student driven classroom. My students voted on subjects they wanted to cover and HITPs were implemented into almost every lecture. Thanks to my fellow boot-campers when things didn’t work, we were able to troubleshoot and make accommodations for next semester.
Reflection on Gen Ed Scholars Institute
The Gen Ed Institute was instrumental in my success this semester and going forward. I know I am a stronger instructor and a better educator because of the tools given at the Gen Ed Institute. I am so thankful for the support of the CTE and their investment in growing better educators.
