 A set of learning or work sessions for learning, course reflection, and class revisions; light breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks provided

Join us on Wednesday, May 8, 8:00 - 4:30, for a day of camaraderie, learning, and planning time to revise classes and get a jump on summer or fall course preps!

 

Our goals for this day are threefold:

  1. Create opportunities for solidarity, support, and community with your teaching peers on campus.
  2. Offer opportunities to learn new approaches to teaching from CTE staff.
  3. Provide dedicated time and space, as preferred, for focused, intentional revision & planning of summer or fall classes.

(And we'll feed you along the way!)

Who can register? Anyone teaching classes at ETSU this fall!

  • 8:00 - 8:30 Breakfast

    Ease Into the Day

    As you enjoy a light breakfast, chat with your teaching colleagues and build community. Get ready for a day of productivity!

  • 8:30 - 8:45 Opening Remarks

    Welcome, Thank You, and Get Inspired

     

    Provost McCorkle and Alison Barton spend a few minutes welcoming you to this day of learning and development before we get started for the day.

  • 8:45 - 10:15 Session 1: Cultures of Thinking

    Session 1: Creating Cultures of Thinking

    For our opening session, we will all learn together about what it means to create a Culture of Thinking in a 90-minute, interactive workshop. We anticipate these will be new ideas (or at least new angles) for most participants!

  • 10:15 - 10:30 Break

    Take a few minutes for light conversation and moving to wherever you might wish to spend the next session.

  • 10:30 - 12:00 Session 2: Rubrics

    Session 2 Topic: Rubrics

    Select from a full, 90-minute workshop, a 30-minute refresher (with 60 minutes of work time), or a 10-minute discussion (with 80 minutes of work time) about rubrics and their potential uses in your courses.

  • 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch

    Lunch

    Enjoy a lunch on us as you decompress, talk with colleagues, and refresh yourself for more productivity in the afternoon.

  • 1:00 - 2:30 Session 3: Alternative Grading

    Session 3 Topic: Alternative Grading


    Select from a full, 90-minute workshop, a 30-minute refresher (with 60 minutes of work time), or a 10-minute discussion (with 80 minutes of work time) about alternative grading practices that can be used fully or partially in your courses.

  • 2:30 - 2:45 Break

    Another time for light conversation and moving to wherever you might wish to spend the next session.

  • 2:45 - 4:15 Session 4: Critical Reflection

    Session 4 Topic: Integrating Critical Reflection

    Select from a full, 90-minute workshop, a 30-minute refresher (with 60 minutes of work time), or a 10-minute discussion (with 80 minutes of work time) about methods for applying critical reflection in your courses to bring the learning to the next level.

  • 4:15 - 4:30 Final Remarks & Prizes

    It's a Wrap

    We'll gather to bring closure to our day and offer some door prizes as a thank-you for spending your time with us, developing your teaching chops, today!
