Reflection on Using High-Impact Teaching Practices
One or more of the most dramatic changes made to classes: This semester, I incorporated more group activities into class, such as “Think-Pair-Share,”
“Chalk Talks,” “3-2-1 Bridge,” and “Claim, Support, Question.” By making these activities
a regular part of class time, a greater number of students were willing to participate
in discussions, sharing opinions and observations more freely.
How it went/what might be done differently or tweaked: Incorporating these new thinking routines into my classes went very well, and students
appeared more engaged than usual. It is important to set clear expectations for these
activities, as some students may not want to contribute beyond the minimum required.
Reflection on Gen Ed Scholars Institute
The impact of the Gen Ed Scholars Institute has been overwhelmingly positive, providing me with numerous helpful tools to enhance my teaching practices.
