Reflection on Using High-Impact Teaching Practices
The most dramatic change I made this semester was introducing collaborative testing. Students would first take their exam individually (75% of their grade) and then immediately retake the same exam as a group (25% of their grade). During these collaborative sessions, I often overheard students reasoning through questions together, sharing perspectives, and learning from one another in real time. This approach not only led to higher final exam scores but also fostered a stronger sense of teamwork and mutual support among students.
Based on the success of this method, I plan to continue using it in the future while exploring ways to further refine the process (e.g., assigned roles, targeted prompts to guide discussions, etc.).
Reflection on Gen Ed Scholars Institute
The Gen Ed Scholars Institute had a profoundly positive impact on my teaching and my identity as an educator. It provided me with innovative strategies and tools that energized my classroom and deepened student engagement. The collaborative environment of the institute reinforced my commitment to continuous growth and reminded me of the power of thoughtful, evidence-based teaching practices.
