Reflection on Using High-Impact Teaching Practices
I think the main thing I brought with me from the Summer bootcamp to my classes was the confidence to try some of the new techniques in my classes. Before, I would have felt more tenuous about making these sorts of changes.
I experienced a great degree of success in my classes and the tweaks I am going to make are to try and incorporate even more of the exercises to my classes.
Reflection on Gen Ed Scholars Institute
I am a much more confident educator than I was before. I feel that I am much better equipped to take chances on these types of exercises to improve my classroom environment.
What's Next
In the spring, in addition to the Think Pair Share and Compass Points ("thinking routines") I used in the fall, I intend to add in the Circle of Viewpoints and I Used to Think – Now I Think exercises. I think these two will work very nicely in my Argumentation and Debate classes.
[Editor's Note: Find these thinking routines and more at Harvard's Project Zero Thinking Routines website.)
