Institute Goals
As a scholar in this institute, you will:
- Learn about & gain mindsets that help create a Culture of Thinking
- Learn about & experience a diverse array of High-Impact Teaching Practices (HITPs)
- Plan for the regular and impactful integration of HITPs in Fall 2025/Spring 2026 Gen Ed course(s)
- Troubleshoot emerging issues as Gen Ed courses are taught
- Share insights, plans, and outcomes with broader teaching community

Expectations
- Attend all 4 days of Institute (Model Mill & Culp)
- Participate actively in online activities during the Institute
- Significantly revise instructional plans for a Gen Ed course or other course (if non-Gen Ed instructor)
Post-Institute Expectations (Stipend Recipients Only*):
- Share HITPs insights and plans at Conference for High-Impact Instructional Practices special session, August 6, 2025 (Johnson City)
- Attend 2 Fall follow-up meetings (dates TBD, based on survey/availability)
- Share HITPs outcomes for Fall classes with panel at Micro-CHIIPs online conference, week of January 6 (exact date TBD); or if course not yet taught, share planned Spring syllabus
* Non-stipend participants are most certainly invited and welcome to participate in these events! However, they are not an expectation.

Eligibility
- Teach a course in 2025-2026 that has been approved as a Compass General Education
class (on ground or online)
- OR: Up to 4 individuals who teach at ETSU. Preference to those with some longevity at ETSU
- Openness to learning and adopting from a range of new instructional techniques for student engagement and learning
- Full-time instructors at ETSU
- Up to 2 adjuncts may be accepted
- Teach a course in 2025-2026 that has been approved as a Compass General Education
class (on ground or online)

- Number of students reached (e.g., multiple sections or Gen Ed courses)
- Diversity of subject/department representation in Institute
- Adjuncts: Anticipated longevity of service/employment
