Rotating Medical Student Application Information
ETSU-QCOM offers a four-week rotation with the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program.
Students work directly with residents and members of the orthopaedic surgery attending staff. Students will participate in didactics as well as surgical procedures and treatments both in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
Fourth-year rotations are designed for students planning to match in orthopaedic surgery.

MS IV
Fourth-year medical students from ETSU Quillen College of Medicine may take the four-week orthopaedic surgery elective, but must meet expected criteria in order to be eligible to interview for the residency program.
Rotations are available May through December each year.

Visiting Students
The ETSU Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program will accept up to 30 students for rotations from visiting medical schools each June to December.Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University uses only VSLO, the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities program to receive visiting student applications.
Quillen accepts VSLO applications only from MD and DO Students enrolled in a U.S. LCME accredited school or a VSLO participating COCA accredited AACOM Member College. We do not accept applications for visiting student electives from medical students attending medical schools outside of the US.
Applications may be submitted through VSLO starting Monday, March 30th, 2026. To apply to our institution, please complete and submit a VSLO application and required documentation for your preferred electives and dates. Availability of slots is dependent on ETSU student schedules. Dates listed are set and are not flexible.
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as set forth by ETSU Quillen College of Medicine, as well as the minimum qualifications for residency as outlined here.
Rotation does not guarantee residency interview.

- Block 6: July 20 - August 14, 2026
- Block 7: August 17 - September 11, 2026
- Block 8: September 14 - October 9, 2026
- Block 9: October 12 - November 6, 2026
- Block 10: November 9 - December 4, 2026
