39th Annual ETSU Pediatrics Conference Poster Competition Participants
On Aug 10th 2024, the ETSU Department of Pediatrics hosted the 39th Annual Pediatrics Conference at Stanton Gerber Hall in Johnson City, TN. The conference is geared towards providers who care for children in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina, and Southeast Kentucky. Included in the conference was the Annual Student/Resident Poster Competition. The competition included 27 posters ranging from case studies, quality improvement, and original research of topics regarding children and youth in our region. Presenters recorded a poster presentation for judging and for viewing by virtual attendees. Presenters also attend the conference to discuss their work with in person attendees.

Dr. Priya Jain publishes article in Pediatric Emergency Care
Dr. Jain and colleagues recently published Discrepancies Between the Management of Fever in Young Infants Admitted From Urban General Emergency Departments and Pediatric Emergency Departments in the Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care.

Drs. Jaishankar & Shafer attend the TNAAP Day on the Hill
Drs. Gayatri Jaishankar and Kara Shafer attended the TNAAP Day on the Hill on Wed., March 2nd in Nashville. The day of advocacy consisted of general updates regarding current legislation, TennCare, and the TNDOH. Participants also had group and individual meetings with key legislators.
"I never thought of myself as an advocate or someone who would enjoy speaking with legislators regarding their bills. I always thought that legislators would just be stuck in their ways and vote however they want. After speaking with several of them, it seemed they really took our opinions into consideration and were eager to hear our thoughts and opinions. This won’t be my last time advocating." -- Dr. Shafer

New Grant Awarded in Pediatrics
The Department of Pediatrics was awarded a Maternal Mortality Action Project Grant. Money was awarded from the CDC through the TN Dept of Health. The new grant will allow us to continue engaging providers and community members in our region and beyond in maternal mortality prevention education, including a new podcast series, called Growing Stronger Together!

ETSU Health opens Pediatrics Clinic in Elizabethton
ETSU Health’s newest clinic, Pediatrics Elizabethton opened Sept. 20. The clinic will offer families general pediatric care, including preventative and acute care and immunizations. It also grants patients access to behavioral health care and ETSU Health’s extensive network of pediatric specialists The clinic is located in the same building as ETSU Ob/Gyn and staffed by Suke Singh, DO. ETSU Health Pediatrics Clinic offers extended hours
Beginning Sept. 16, the ETSU Health Pediatrics Clinic will remain open until 8 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. We know it's a struggle for working parents and adolescents who often also hold a job or participate in extra-curricular activities to schedule appointments during most clinics’ normal operating hours. We hope extended after hours will help ease this burden for families. More information here.

ETSU Department of Pediatrics hosts 36th Annual Pediatric Conference with student/resident poster session
On Aug. 7, the East Tennessee State University Department of Pediatrics hosted the 36th Annual Pediatrics Conference at The James and Nellie Brinkley Center in Johnson City. Each year, the conference is designed to share the latest updates and best clinical practices with providers who care for children in East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Western North Carolina and Southeast Kentucky. This year the conference was offered in a hybrid format allowing people to attend both in person and virtually.
